While still a college student in the nineties, I began researching Detroit area country-western artists, from cowboy to rockabilly to western swing, old-timey to bluegrass. I presented my interviews and information on my local radio shows, and by writing magazine articles, and record / compact disc liner notes. Keith Cady, a.k.a. Keith Jason of WSDS radio Ypsilanti, started collaborating with me in the research around 2000.
Based on the stories we collected, as well as hard-to-find music, photos, and printed matter, I wrote a book called “Detroit Country Music – Mountaineers, Cowboys, and Rockabillies” (available here). Available in paperback, hardcover and electronically, the book is published by University of Michigan Press.
The limits of the printed page inspired us to share more stories, interviews, and images related to our project through this website.
